Yorkshire Fashion Week: When Fashion Meets Healing: A Journey Through Self-Acceptance

Amid the hype and the crowd’s excitement over such an incredible show, beneath the starry backdrop, there was a moment of vulnerability. We were asked, "Who here has ever felt like their body was 'wrong'?" As hands rose left and right, I found my own arm lifted in the air, even though I no longer shared that same bitterness about myself. I awkwardly avoided eye contact with the same people I’d been laughing and sharing moments of fragility with all day.

Then, Carron’s warm and powerful speech on acceptance and self-love brought me back to the present. Although I’d just been reminded of a painful feeling I thought I had completely healed from, I felt embraced by her words.

That interaction stayed with me, making me wonder what it meant for others in the crowd. Did the question empower them, make them feel seen, reopen old wounds, or even partially heal something within them? Moments of community like these—where we distract ourselves with glamour and joy—ground us, creating real connections that can change someone’s day.

Carron closed the event with the “come as you are” walk, where models strutted in outfits of their own choice, igniting applause from the audience as we walked fiercely down the runway. It was Carron’s final touch, as soft and reassuring as a mother’s kiss after tucking us in at the end of a long day.
